 Catching the Sunset

Beautiful sunsets on Duxbury Beach are a never ending source of inspiration.  One evening in September of last year, a blue moon was scheduled to be present.  I, in the company of many, headed out to the beach.  The moon wasn't much to see but the sunset leading up to it was remarkable.  Our town has two beaches back to back, formed on a strip of land which forms a thin peninsula. One side is the bay of our town and the other side is the open ocean. We are on the east coast so the sun sets behind the outer beach.  The beach fence in this scene is protecting the beach grasses on the outer beach so it is being illuminated by the warmth of the setting sun in the west.

Marsh at Sunrise

I went back to the beautiful morning where Maria and I caught the sunrise. We were given the most glorious golden gift!  A pink fog was burning off in the back ground and the marsh grass caught the first rays of the golden sun.  It was stunning and I would love to become more disciplined to do this more often!   For now, I have a some pictures that help me recreate the moment and I often go back to them!

Beach Road on a Coudy Day

This was done two weeks ago.  My daughter and I are showing some work at a local hotel and I wanted to do some landscapes.  This is the road heading toward the outer most section of Duxbury Beach.  It is a never ending change of color and mood.  The afternoon of this photograph the clouds were impressive casting a purple shadow along the road.  I tried to capture the movement of the clouds and grass with the strokes.
