I'm Back!

For the last fifteen years in October, nine college friends meet together on a beach in Florida.  We wait for this weekend all year long.  Raising children, the teenage and college years, celebrating weddings and then babies, suffering losses...we have shared it all.   This scene captures how we feel not only when we hit the beach for the first time, but that feeling of celebration when we all step off the plane.

Catching the Sunset, 3

That brilliant September sunset was over and the sun was almost gone. The cars were heading back over the bridge.  All that was left was the violet glow.  I was attracted by the lavender hues of the sky, water and pavement.

Duxbury Beach Waves in the Setting Sun #2

We were at the beach for one of the last comfortable evenings of the summer.  The sun setting in the west put warm light on waves rolling in from the east.  I took picture after picture of the beauty hoping that it would carry me through the winter.

Can't get enough of the Beach in September...

The October wind is blowing and we say good-bye to the last days of summer.  I visited our beach an evening two weeks ago and the waves were crashing in against with the most beautiful translucency as the sun beginning to set.   I clicked away hoping to revisit these images during the winter months for a breath of summer.

Thank you for viewing.

Painting, Painting, Painting!

I have spent many years painting part-time, mainly doing portrait commissions, while also working as a Financial Aid Counselor at a local community college.  While I LOVE portraits and portrait commissions, I yearned for more time at the easel to stretch myself creatively in other directions as well.

I am thrilled to now be fruitfully painting full-time every day!   This was one of the sliver linings of the past several sheltered years.  I began working from home like many people, which allowed me to paint and study more through the many on-line events and offerings that became available.  Eventually I felt it was time to leave my "day" job to be able to finally pursue painting full-time!  What a gift and such a joy!

I have been immersing myself in the last days of summer by painting seascapes.  I am so happy to share my painting journey going forth!  Thank you for visiting!

Marsh at Sunrise

I went back to the beautiful morning where Maria and I caught the sunrise. We were given the most glorious golden gift!  A pink fog was burning off in the back ground and the marsh grass caught the first rays of the golden sun.  It was stunning and I would love to become more disciplined to do this more often!   For now, I have a some pictures that help me recreate the moment and I often go back to them!

Finally Back.

I have been certainly been exercising my artistic muscle since the last time I posted...way, way long time ago!  I just have not been faithful, like my brother Ric, to posting my progress.  Check out his blog:  http://ericlarsonart.blogspot.com to see how often he paints and how faithful he is to his painting blog.   You can click it on the bar to the right as well.

Well done, Ric.  I am more impressed overtime I see your work.  And it proves how regular painting is the only way to improve.  I have my New Year's resolution.  It is to paint 2 hours a day, 5 days a week.  My husband, Skip,  handmade a beautiful and LARGE pastel drawer cabinet so that I can get more organized and achieve my goal!  Thank you Skip!

So for now, I am going to post the paintings that I have done over the past 6 months and catch up.  This one was done from a picture taken at Duxbury beach.  My daughter, Callie, loves to sea glass hunt and this is a posture that I associate with her!
